2006 Petite Sirah

This wine is in no way Petite. Full of blackberry and spicy smoked hickory with tame tannins.

A full bodied red wine, that is BIG on flavor and color. With baked blackberry and spicy smoked hickory , there is no shortage of flavor. A chewy mouth full of tame integrated tannins, the wine finishes surprisingly smooth for a Petite Sirah.

Meats such as braised prime rib, grilled steaks, or barbeque ribs all pair well with this Petite Sirah. Bring out your stickiest bbq sauces as well. It also has a wild side, so pair it with deer, elk, buffalo or pig.

Grapes are cultivated in the Clarksburg Appellation. Warm sunny days and cool breezy nights typify the growing conditions of this California Delta appellation. Grown in nutrient rich sandy clay soils, the vines are trained into a bilateral configuration on a California "T" trellis, Spur pruned, the vines are shoot, cluster and leaf thinned for a balanced vine and optimum flavor development.

Grapes were picked in the morning and destemmed to tank on the skins. The skins, juice and seeds were allowed to "cold" soak for 48 hours, before adding the yeast. After the yeast addition, the wine was pumped over 2-3 daily and fermented at 85F for 10 days. The wine was pressed off the skins and seeds were it settled before going to barrel for 12 months.
