Clarksburg,
Cali. – October 4, 2005 – Ah,
Albarino, the Riesling of Spain! Albarino, considered
by many to be Spain’s premier quality white wine,
now has competition in California. Dancing Coyote Wines,
in the Clarksburg appellation, is currently producing
an Albarino that will make most Spaniard grape growers
quiver.
Albarino is native to the Rias Baixas (ree-ahss bii-shahs)
region of Spain and the Vinho Verde region of Portugal.
Although very few acres are planted in California, nascent
interest in growing and producing Albarino began in the
mid-1990s. Dancing Coyote planted five acres several
years ago, with their first production coming out earlier
this year.
A deliciously refreshing white
wine, Dancing
Coyote’s
2004 Albarino is characteristic of most Spanish Albarinos
- expressive aromas of passion fruit, citrus and honeyed
peaches, with a vibrant, mouthwatering acidity. Typical
Spanish Albarinos are intriguingly perfumed, but razor-sharp
on the palate. Dancing Coyote has captured the wonderfully
heady bouquet, but slightly softened the acidity while
still maintaining the intense vibrancy. This is a dry
wine that’s a cross between a Sauvignon Blanc with
a vibrant personality, and a Chardonnay, with a Viognier
aroma and mouth feel. Albarino is great as an aperitif,
but also pairs well with shellfish, spicy Asian dishes
and tapas.
Dancing Coyote’s Albarino
recently won a Best of Class at the California State
Fair and was featured as Wine of the Week at local
Nugget markets. It retails for $10.99 and can be found
at Nugget Markets, as well as Beyond Napa Wine Market
at 2580 Fair Oaks Blvd. in Sacramento.
Our Story
Dancing Coyote is a family owned and operated vineyard
and winery located in the Clarksburg appellation. They
have been farming in the Delta region along the Sacramento
River for five generations and recently began producing
wine. “Our goal is to produce the best quality
wines using unique and different varietals and blends
that are true to our appellation”, said Chad Joseph,
Winemaker for Dancing Coyote Wines. Dancing Coyote Wines
currently produces four other wines in addition to their
Albarino: 2004 Chenin Blanc, 2004 Pinot Grigio, 2003
Petite Sirah and 2004 Cha Cha (a white wine blend, predominantly
